LISBON – The Lisbon Exempted Village Board of Education has received another $2,000 toward the purchase of a new high jump mat, this time from the Lisbon Eagles. Superintendent Joe Siefke said the district has received a total of $4,000 toward the project so far and needs another $2,700 to complete it.

“We appreciate the donations,” Siefke said. “We are very thankful. [Athletic Director Kyle] Bing continues to work on getting the high jump mat. This will go a long way but not the whole way in helping us achieve that goal.”

Bing spoke about the ongoing project at the school board meeting Thursday and thanked the Eagles for their support. “In my six years of being athletic director, there hasn’t been a time that we’ve been in need when they haven’t come through with large donations to the athletic department,” Bing said. “They’re phenomenal, very supportive of our kids.”

Bing said Joe Morenz donated $2,000 last year toward the project. “We sat down and looked and realized mats are close to $10,000,” Bing said. “So he did some legwork and went to the Eagles and got the other $2,000 and he’s working on some stuff on his end.

Bing said he’s been talking to a company about ways to complete the project. “We talked more earlier in the week and they said they’d be willing to do something where they can pay the $4,000 down now and pay the other two next fiscal year,” Bing said. “So we are working on getting that done. When the upgrades are done up there at the stadium we can have the new mat, new standards, those things have to be close to 30 years old that the kids are using right now.”

The district recently replaced the bar after the old one broke, Bing noted. “With all the upgrades going on with the facility, we want to have everything top notch for the kids,” he said. “We wouldn’t be able to do that without the generosity of our community which goes unsaid. We see it all the time.”

The board also approved quotes from TriMark from Pittsburgh for an upgrade to McKinley elementary’s kitchen including equipment needed at a price of $93,507.

Siefke said the district has been working on bids and quotes for the kitchen for this coming year and he hopes to make the transition to new equipment over the summer in time for the new school year in the fall. He said the summer feeding program will still operate out of McKinley over the summer. “It’s going to be a little tricky,” he said. “We are running the summer feeding program out of McKinley because their parking lot is more accessible for people coming in to get food when we are not in session so it will be a little tricky with the equipment but it will be okay.”

In personnel matters, the board approved the following contracts:

Issued a two-year contract to Scott Gallo as stadium caretaker from April 1 through March 31, 2024 at a rate of $15 per hour not to exceed 600 hours per year.
