If you were north of the city of Boston, a splash bash in Melrose was a great spot for kids of all ages to cool down.

Melrose firefighter Ian McGregor normally uses 250 gallons a minute hose to put out fires. Today, it was to cool kids off.

"We're dressed in our fire gear and that just exacerbates the heat on days like today," McGregor said. "So, being able to come out here without having to wear fire gear and play in the water is kind of like a treat for us too."

The fire and recreation departments sponsored the splash bash at the city's high school football field, giving kids and their families a chance to beat the heat.

Summer Yes, that's her name. Brought her dad to the splash park. It's the summer.
