Fire crews called as blaze breaks out in shop - Liverpool Echo

Two engines were on scene at 3.50am

Fire crews tackled a blaze that broke out a shop in the early hours of this morning (June 24).

Crews were alerted to a fire in a shop on Townsend Lane, Anfield, at 3.43am and two engines were on scene at 3.50am. Crews gained access through the front roller shutters and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered to tackle the fire using high pressure hose reel jets.

The fire had been extinguished and crews were carrying out damping down operations by 4.29am. Properties either side of the affected shop were also checked - no injuries have been reported.

The road has been closed in both directions from Priory Road to Chapel Road. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been carried out and determined it started accidentally. One fire engine remained at the scene at around 8am, as fire crews were seen entering Collectives Superstores.

Merseyside Police are also in attendance and assisting with road closures.
