An investigation is underway after three fire engines were called to scrap materials and a derelict caravan on fire in the early hours of this morning.

There were no injuries reported but it is understood the blaze may have been started deliberately.

The alarm was raised at 4.13am. A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they were called to reports of a fire at commercial premises on the A225 Hawley Road, Dartford.

She said: "Three fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire which involved a derelict caravan, tyres, fencing and other scrap materials.

"No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious."

The fire was out by 5.17am.

Tania Harvey, a director of JC Autobreakers which has premises in Hawley Road, said the fire was not on their site.
