Fire crews, paramedics and Police have all responded to a flat fire in East Cowes this evening (Monday).

3 appliances from East Cowes, Ryde and Cowes – as well as the Incident Command Unit from Newport – were mobilised to Ferry Road shortly after 19:30 – at the same time that other appliances were responding to a field fire at Brook.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also been in attendance at the scene, alongside Police.

The situation now appears to be under control with breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a safety hose utilised.

UPDATE @ 21:01 – It has been confirmed that a woman has been treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after being rescued by firefighters.

The fire developed in the kitchen of the flat and has been extinguished using a hose reel jet.

Emergency teams have now stood down from the incident, save for 1 fire appliance from East Cowes, which is expected to return to home station shortly.

I hope all concerned are safe and well. I recommend they move to Ventnor seafront where, apparently, we do not have such things as fires. The council tells the police that when the fire brigade tells the locals something different.
